Reticulated pythons of Southeast Asia are generally recognized as the longest snakes in the world, but there are unsubstantiated claims that specimens of South American green anaconda may be just as long. While perhaps not the longest snake in the world, the green anaconda is by far the largest in size because of its greater girth.
