What is the worst thing that can happen from a infected tongue piercing?

- The two blue veins that run along under your tongue could be punctured.
- Your tongue could swell so badly that it engulfs the jewelry.
- You run the risk of damaging your gums and teeth.

∙ 14y agoWhen piercing the tongue, the risks can be hitting a rather large blood vessel and bleeding out.
However an experienced piercer would check the bottom of your tongue to see if there are any major veins before positioning the piercing.
Also if you have a relatively small tongue, once it is pierced, the jewelry can irritate the frenum and gums.

∙ 14y agoSerious infections in the tongue can be life threatening. Seek medical attention at once. Toxic shock syndrome is not a joking matter and can come on quickly with infected piercings that are left untreated.

∙ 11y agoThere are several infections you can get, and unfortunately an infection in your tongue can result in speech impairments and eating problems for the rest of your life. There are many bacteria already in your mouth, and by inserting a piercing through the tongue you can drive any of them into your tongue muscle. Also, you could get infected with hepatitis or HIV if the needle isn't clean. Finally, there is some concern about Clostridium infections and Mycobacterium infections.

It could actually be normal discharge and not pus. Since I can't see the piercing, the best thing for you to do is to go back to your piercer :)

ok, if its hard around the Piercing that's normal, its a callus forming, but if your whole tongue is hard, then I'm not for sure why that is, only thing i can think of is the swelling.
