Anywhere between $25 - 60K a year, depending on degrees, certification, and position (counselor, treatment director, private practice, etc.) Top end would be a Masters level or PhD with Master Addiction Professional and state professional licensing (in Florida, Licensed Mental Health Counselor).
Addiction counseling is not the highest-paying area in the mental health field by any means, but it is one of the more challenging and rewarding. The best counselors tend to be recovering themselves, since they can relate better and the clients can relate to them, although I have known excellent ones who were not.

I am myself a Vocational Rehab Counselor and when I started working in the field as graduate student in Rehabilitation Counseling, I was making 35k per year. After I graduated with my MSEd, I started making 45k. About a year after I graduated, I was offered a supervisory position and my salary is in the mid 50k. I believe that the average salary for a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with a master degree is in the low to mid 40k. However, this is a small field and there are many managerial positions that pay a lot more. The field has been growing for the past decades as a result of the increasing number of people with disabilities in the area of warfare (veterans), chemical dependency (drug users) and various other disabilities that require some type of vocational rehabilitation. In addition, with HRA emphasis on getting recipients of public assistance back to work, the vocational rehabilitation field have been picking up steam. I would have to add that Vocational Rehab Counselors are in demand nowadays, considering that many of those hired as vocational counselors have not been properly trained to work with various disabilities.
