On April 29th, 1895, a founding meeting was held in the Germania Dramatic Club meeting room in the parochial school of Trinity Church, which was adjacent to Old Hughes [High School]. At this meeting, the five founders (William Henley, Whittington Underhill, Herman Bender, Sidney Herrick, and Clifford Greve), discussed the great need at Hughes High School for a democratic organization which would solicit the membership of boys based upon their personal good character and reputation, and not upon the social or financial standing of their families. After the first meeting held by the five founders, the decision was made to select the Charter Members, and adopt a Latin name "Triginta Optimi", meaning "30 of the Best". [T.O. (Tee-O) for short.] Eventually, there were Five Chapters: - Chapter I: Hughes High School - Chapter II: Western Hills High School - Chapter III: Walnut Hills High School - Chapter IV: Walnut Hills High School - Chapter V: Milford High School Chapter II was the last remaining Chapter and closed in 1980. However, the remaining members of T.O. still get together several times a year and hold a unique bond seldom seen today.
