you have three turbinates in each side of your nose. They are like fingers. Their job is to moisten the air, and add some resistance to your nasal breathing.

Coblation involves puncturing the lower of these with a coblater wand (small pointed instrument) it then destroys some of the tissue inside the turbinate creating a pocket that eventually collapses resulting in effectively a smaller turbinate. This means when you have Allergies, cold, or what have you, they won't swell up as much reducing the likelyhood of having a stopped up nose.

Most people think when their nose is stuffy it is due to it being full of junk. Actually, it is the turbinate swelling up and restricting the nasal passage which gives you that stopped up feeling.

What is the function of a turbinate?

In terms of anatomy what is a nasal concha?

A long, narrow and curled bone shelf which protrudes into the breathing passage of the nose is called a turbinate, or better known in anatomy as a nasal concha.

What is hypertrophy of inferior nasal concha and concha bullosa?

Hypertrophy means overgrowth. The concha are the turbinates, or the ridged parts of the nose that swirl the air for warming and cleaning. Hypertrophy in the turbinates is typically a sign of rhinitis -- often due to allergies. A concha bullosa is a turbinate with air in it; about half of people have one.

What are the bony ridges that warm air called?

The bony ridges that warm the air as it travels through the nasal cavity are called turbinate bones or nasal conchae. They help to increase the surface area of the nasal cavity to aid in warming, humidifying, and filtering incoming air before it reaches the lungs.

What is osteomeatal complex?

OSTEOMEATAL COMPLEX(OMC) OMC is a functional entity that included middlr turbinate, uncinate process, ethmoid bulla, semilunar hiatus and etnmoid infundibulum. OMC is final common pathway for drainage and ventilation of frontal, maxillary sinuses and ant.ethmoidal cells. OMC is related with pathogensis of nasal sinusitis and it is basis of functional nasal endoscopic suegery.

U want to straight your nose naturally?

Nothing naturally. You probably need a Septoplasty performed. Septoplasty is a corrective surgical procedure done to straighten the nasal septum, the partition between the two nasal cavities. Ideally, the septum should run down the center of the nose. When itdeviates into one of the cavities, it narrows that cavity and impedes airflow. Often the inferior turbinate on the opposite side enlarges, which is termed compensatory hypertrophy. Nasal obstructions caused by serious deviations frequently lead to chronic sinus problems.Turbinate reduction may also be advised to further enlarge the nasal cavities. If turbinate resection is indicated special care should be taken to avoid over-resection leading toEmpty nose syndrome. Most surgeries are completed in 90 minutes or less, not including recovery time.

What are the names of the bones that surround the opening of the nose?

The nose itself is made up of mostly cartilage. The facial bones of the skull that surround and help construct the base of the nose consist of the maxilla, the vomer bone, the ethmoid, and the nasal bone. The nostrils are composed of branched "bones" or cartilages called turbinates. A turbinate is a long, narrow curled bone shelf. The function of the turbinates is to warm the air coming in and remove the moisture going out.
