A pillar drill is another name for a drill press. The biggest hazards are objects getting wrapped around the chuck, and debris or projectiles being thrown. So long hair, ties, and loose clothing should be avoided, eye protection should be worn, and your work should be securely clamped to the work area. Other hazards could include drilling oneself, being injured inside the gearbox, or starting a fire. So you should keep all body parts from around the chuck and pulleys while the drill is in operation. You should be careful to not let your work get overly hot, not operate the press in the presence of flammable vapors, and not overload the outlets.

There are many safety rules when using bending machines. Some of these include wearing safety glasses, tucking away long hair, not wearing rings while using the machine, wearing proper (close-toed) shoes and not wearing gloves or loose-fitting clothing as they have a greater likelihood of being caught in the machine. See the related links for more information.

A pillar drill can be used to drill pieces of metals, plastics, and woods. Since it is a big drill, it can be used on large pieces of material to produce big holes.

The motor on a pillar drill is usually under the back of the belt casing.
A pillar drill or drill press is used for cutting repeated holes, possibly with a jig, or using other tool bits that are too large to use effectively in a hand drill. These may be Forstner bits, milling bits, fly cutters or many other devices.
It is a type of drill you use in wood work well to mainly drill holes but then again it doesn't drill all the way through the piece of wood you are using.
