Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 is a disease where the body's immune system attacks the beta cells in the pancreas that make insulin.
With both types of the commonly known Diabetes, 1 and 2, the body has insulin problems. However, type 2 is less severe. In type 2, the body makes insulin, but it doesn't really know how to handle it. This type of diabetes can usually be managed via diet.
In Type 1, the body has an autoimmune response to the pancreatic insulin producing beta cells, and insulin production is ceased. It's fatal unless treated with insulin injections/pills/etc.
