Umar ibn Al-Khattab was one of the main characters in Islam history
one of the most powerful men in Makkah before Islam rised
he was one of the toughest enemies of Islam but he converted to Islam after 6 years of beginning of "Da'awa" (around 616 AD)
he became the second Khalifah after Abu Bakr Died (arount 634 AD) and ruled for over 11 years
he was stapped by Abu-Loloa Al-Majousi and after several days died by his wounds on November 644 AD

Before converting to Islam, Umar ibn Al-Khattab was a pagan, worshipping various aspects of nature.
They were very good friends. They shared the position as Muhammad's two closest advisers with no apparent jealousy. When Abu Bakr became caliph, Umar was his strongest supporter. They both understood that Umar was to be the second caliph after him.
