Well, it depends on whether she has always purred "heavily", or if this is a new or different behavior.

Believe it or not, sometimes excessive purring can actually be a signal that something is wrong with kitty! Yep- kitty's purring is not only soothing to us humans, but to him or her as well. When some cats are in pain, are sick, or hurt (or even dying), they may begin to exhibit excessive purring (which can also sometimes be coupled with another indicator that something is wrong- excessive grooming). The excessive purring and/or grooming is suggested to be a form of self-soothing. Although the exact mechanism of purring remains a bit of a mystery, it is thought to produce endorphins (which are the body's "natural pain killers").

But don't be alarmed- if your cat has always been a heavy-purring machine (like one of my cats is), then there should be no cause for concern- he/she just happens to have a heavy purr!

*Always keep this in mind: the mostimportant factor in determining whether it's time to take motor-boat kitty to the vet is change.

I can't say it enough- change in diet, behavior, mood, activity, energy, urine/poop...etc etc- change is usually the first sign that something is wrong.
