Tokens were used in ring topologies because data crashes were common on the network. Therefore, tokens allowed one PC that had the token to talk on the network at a time. PCs would wait until the token was passed from PC to PC as needed, in order to transfer data throughout the network.
A token can mean many things:
A token gesture is an action intended for display without real value.
A token can be a voucher in place of money, such as a token for a roller-coaster ride.
In computing (excluding networking), a token is typically understood to be a chunk of input, for example a set of characters not including the space, tab or new line characters, separated from the adjacent tokens by space, tab, new line characters or the beginning or end of the input stream. (Other delimiting characters include the semicolon in some programming languages, for example.)
In networking, a token is a symbol of entitlement: in order to control and manage access to a shared media, participants in a token network pass a token from one to the other. A participant in possession of the token is entitled to use the facilities (i.e. send a message onto the network), but must surrender the token to the next participant after a set time.
Most drivers well allow you to use token still.

3. Unlike Ethernet, Token Ring uses a ring topology whereby the data is sent from one machine to the next and so on around the ring until it ends up back where it started. It also uses a token passing protocol which means that a machine can only use the network when it has control of the Token, this ensures that there are no collisions because only one machine can use the network at any given time.

No. 'Token' is not a creature type.
Token Ring
You can buy Tokens from the Token Shop or from Users. Then use the Token in the custom maker.

It is a token coin made in 1912 and possibly issued by a business either as a commemoration of something or for use within the business.
Yes. It has to be a monster token. You cannot use it if the token or the synchro card specificly states that it cannot be used as a synchro material
is a fake
The token is a special 3 byte sequence that indicates the state of the ring; it may mark the ring as in-use, or free (anyone can use it), or health status. Any client needs to have access to the token before transmitting or receiving on the ring network.
The token indicates current "ownership" of the ring, in that only one client at a time can have access to the network. If you don't have the token you can't do anything on the network. It also indicates the status of the ring, whether it is in use, available to transmit on, health status, etc.
