Satellites take satellite pictures of the cloud cover, I don't think any other measurements are taken by satellites. You can do a lot with weather satellites, like looking into hurricanes. Other tools are used to take measurements with to determine the path or strength of a hurricane.

For common weather measurements Fahrenheit is used in the US. For scientific purposes both the Fahrenheit and the Celsius scale are used.
Temperature and humidity are the measurements commonly used to assess the pleasantness of weather. These affect most how hot or cold it "feels" outside.

You could watch TV on the weather channel to get a forecast. However, you can use a weather station to determine your current weather, careful though, some instruments are inaccurate. In order to get accurate measurements, always follow the instructions included with your weather station.
The temperature of the weather is defined using measurements such as Celcius or Fahrenheit.
