In anything less than uncirculated condition, this coin's value as of 11/2010 is determined by the price of gold rather than as a collectible.

Look on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter below the eagle. It may be blank or there may be an O or S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $740

Moderately worn - $780

Slightly worn - $830

Almost no wear - $860

Uncirculated - $950 to $38,480 depending on quality

"O" mint mark (New Orleans):

Very worn - $740

Moderately worn - $780

Slightly worn - $830

Almost no wear - $866

Uncirculated - $960 to $6,560

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $740

Moderately worn - $780

Slightly worn - $830

Almost no wear - $860

Uncirculated - $950 to $43,880

DISCLAIMER: The retail values quoted are the best available, but may vary due to market fluctuations. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.
