Tap water is fresh water. The phrase "fresh water" refers to water with very little or no salt in it (as opposed to salt water, such as is found in oceans). Tap water contains little or no salt, and is therefore fresh water.
Adding a little salt to the boiling water gives pasta a little taste or flavor.

Salt water has a slightly higher density, so it will be a little quicker to swim in fresh water.
It is called brackish water. It tastes salty but may contain very little salt.

Salt water has a higher salinity level compared to fresh water, which makes it denser and allows objects to float more easily. Fresh water has a lower freezing point than salt water, allowing it to freeze at a higher temperature.
