It should be worn to any Scouting meeting, event, or outing, unless the nature of the event is such that it could be damaged, or if it is not appropriate due to the weather. For example, one would not want to wear it to a service project where concrete is being poured, or to a Klondike Derby without wearing appropriate outerwear over it.

∙ 10y agoTo use a more common phrase, a Boy Scout is "in uniform" when he is in his "Class A," or "field uniform."
But what is a field uniform? It's the formal uniform for Scouts to wear, having four basic parts universally.
- Headgear: if a troop/unit has chosen a specific hat, such as a beret or ball cap, it is part of the field uniform.
- Shirt and Neckwear: all Scouts must wear the official tan or green uniform shirts. A troop/unit may also choose a specific neckerchief or bolo tie that becomes part of the uniform in the same fashion as the headgear.
- Pants: with not much flexibility here, all members must wear the official olive-colored scout shorts or pants.
- Socks: the official olive-colored socks are the last part of the uniform.

And that's it- when a Boy Scout's wearing his unit headgear, his uniform shirt, neckwear, pants and socks, he's in Class A uniform, in field uniform, or just "in uniform."

The Blue/yellow uniform is rarely used.
