Could be a great number of number of things but a doctor will be able to diagnose the cause very quickly using a dipstick in your urine and a blood test. Typically an adult should produce upto around 2.5 litres of urine a day and the colour should be pale straw. You would do well to keep a diary of when and how much, what colour your urine is and if there are anythings which make your symptoms better or worse before you go to the doctor so you have your symptoms clear in your mind. Some reasons for polyuria are fairly normal other more extrordinary but your doctor will take the symptom seriously. Here are a few reasons; 1)Excess fluid intake 2)Diabetes insipidus or mellitus 3)Diuretic medication/foods eg caffine, alcohol 4)Psychogenic polydipsia 5)Kidney faliure 6)Sickle cell anemia 7)High doses of vitamin C or vitamin B2 8)Hyperthyroidism 9)Cushings syndrome 10) Addison's disease 11) Lithium medication 12)Liver faliure 13)Appendicitis 14)Urinary tract infection 15)Migrane 16)Hypercalcemia 17)Polycythemia 18)Hypokalemia 19)Congective heart failure 20)Lupus erthematosus Most of the time there is nothing wrong but it is probably a slight infection, get it checked out by your doctor and you may be given some antibiotics.
