Islam is against any kind of exploitation. Usury is a very worst kind of exploitation, because it requires the borrower to produce more wealth than that which he was given, impoverishing him to the lender's benefit.

Is the Islamic banking is really Islamic and how?

Islamic banking is, in a sense, like regular banking with focus of no fixed interest rate. The interest in Islam is called "Riba" (Usury). Riba or Usury is strictly forbidden in Islam because it is unfair. Islamic banking dealing focuses on buy and sell for a profit that does not guarantee a profit rate neither for the bank nor the customer.

Why did the church think usury was sinful?

Usury, which is the lending of money at exorbitant interest rates, is considered morally wrong by most people. The church considered it wrong as well, because it takes advantage of people and causes the poor to become poorer. The church promotes charity as the acceptable method of dealing with the poor.

Is interest haram?

Giving and taking interest are both haraam in Islam. [surah baqarah:275] Those who eat Ribâ[] (usury) will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except like the standing of a person beaten by Shaitân (Satan) leading him to insanity. That is because they say: "Trading is only like Ribâ (usury)," whereas Allâh has permitted trading and forbidden Ribâ (usury). So whosoever receives an admonition from his Lord and stops eating Ribâ (usury) shall not be punished for the past; his case is for Allâh (to judge); but whoever returns [to Ribâ (usury)], such are the dwellers of the Fire - they will abide therein.

Does Islam forbid interest bearing loans?

No, this is nothing but a kind of usury which is strictly prohibited in Islam. changing the names does not change the fact. so, let the name be interest or whatever it's still usury & this is forbidden in Islam. Usury has many bad effects. for instance, it causes oppression, it increases the wealth of the rich & the poverty of the poor which leads to a damage in the economical system of the community due to creating a huge gap between poor & rich, it causes conflicts & hatred between people & it's enough that God, the Creator forbids it.Only one example:(Allah will deprive usury of all blessing, but will give increase for deeds of charity: For He loveth not creatures ungrateful and wicked).Holy Quran,(2:276).

Why dont Muslims do usury or riba?

Usury (riba in Arabic) is condemned and prohibited in the strongest terms in Quran. It is explicitly forbidden in Quran. Quran says (meaning translation): " Those who usury will not stand except as stands one whom the Satan by his touch has driven to madness. That is because they say trade is like usury, but God (ALLAH) has permitted trade and forbidden usury.... God (ALLAH) will deprive Usury of all blessing but will give increase for deeds of charity...".So, Muslims do not do Usury (Riba):first as obedience to God commands, andsecond because by usury you exploit the need of others to money and instead of helping them by charity or giving loan at no profit you gain more money out of them.
