What is wrong with your fish if it keeps floating at the top of the bowl but is not dead?

It is probably a problem with the swim bladder - usually due to poor water quality or overfeeding (which also causes poor water quality.) Try changing half of the water, and reducing feeding frequency. Good luck!

RES's typically aren't found floating... They sink unless they've hauled up on something that keeps them at the surface. So the fact that he's floating indicates to me that he's not "otherwise ok".
