The United States government began to be concerned about the Mormon settlement in Utah when they received a false report from some anti-Mormons that the Mormons were planning an uprising. The president sent military troops to Utah to keep an eye on the Mormons and stop the uprising from happening, however when the military arrived they found that there was nothing to be concerned about. This event is called "Buchanan's Blunder" because President Buchanan didn't check his sources and wasted military resources and money to stop an event that was never going to happen.
