In regiments from several states, blacks fought alongside whites in the same units.
However, most black combat soldiers were organized into units designated 'N' or 'C' (Negro or Colored). All the enlisted men were black and nearly all of the officers were white.
Before the creation of those special all-black units, many regiments used black soldiers for support duties such as cooking, tending mules, and driving wagons.
By the end of the war nearly 10% of the Union Army was black.
Soldiers during the Civil War had a great many jobs. They had to drive vehicles and maintain weapons for example.

The Union raised money to fight the Civil War through loans and taxes, just the way governments do today. Also the used the draft, if someone did not want to join, they would fine them to get out of fighting but less than 2% of union soldiers were drafted.
There were many occupations that were depended in the North during the Civil War. Nursing and healthcare were extremely important to care for the wounded Union soldiers. People were needed to create new ammunition for the war. Jobs as newspaper reporters and journalists were increasing to spread news of the war efforts.
The Emancipation Proclamation stated that African-American men willing to fight "will be received into the armed service of the United States." After the Emancipation Proclamation, blacks rushed to joined the Union Army. At the end of the war, there were nearly 180,000 black soldiers in the Union Army.

They were nurses for the soldiers, other than that, they stayed at home... cooking, cleaning, sewing, raising children,...etc.
I don't think women did any jobs during that time because they were expected to stay home and do laundry, cook meals, take care of the kids, etc. But some women worked as nurses during the civil war to help the soldiers out.
Women during the civil war could not have any jobs unless they were slaves and/or being in the house taking care of their children.
