when men were in the trenches in world war one they had many jobs such as cleaning the toilets and getting supplies. They would also have had to repairing defences; mending and putting up barbed wire and refilling sand bags and putting them up around the outside of the trench, If they were on night duty then they would have to guard the trench or they would be sent on spying missions to find info on the enemy .

In World War One the men had to do routine jobs such as, cleaning the toilets and fetching supplies. They would also have had to do jobs like repairing defences; mending and putting up barbed wire and refilling sand bags and putting them up around the outside of the trench, If they were on night duty then they would either have to guard the trench or they would be sent on scouting or spying missions.

Most of the men were employed as soldiers or in other capacities in the military forces during the war. Women on the other hand were called upon to take up the jobs vacated by the men in the industries to continue production.

What is a reserve trench?

Reserve trenches were used as supplies for the trenches out the front. In world war one, they had come up with a technique of hiding in trenches before they fight. To do this properly, they had made them zig-zags. The trenches on the front line were where the soldiers would fight from. Reserve trenches were used in case these people had anything happen to them and they needed to use more trenches and more men. Throughout the war, the conditions of the front line trenches became worse as the communication and reserve trenches improved. I hope that helped :)
