Where there is money to be made , there will always people unscrupulous enough to take advantage of it.
If slavery spread then they would have a better chance of keeping slavery in the united states. They wanted to keep slavery in the south because they did not have to pay their workers like the factory workers in the North did. "Free" labor.
To stop the spread of slavery
Most southerners saw slavery as an economic necessity. Slaves worked large plantations all throughout the south. These plantations depended on this cheap/free labor to keep overhead costs down.
Slavery then was mainly whites people against coloured people where the slaves used to do all the work on the farm and get treated like cattle, slavery now is different with machinery doing all the work, but still exists in some way in third world countries its the worst with children being bought and sold as slaves sometimes for sexual pleasure, it is against the law in countries to treat or keep someone against their will as a slave and usually if caught it carries a long prison sentence, but that does not stop some people from trying.
The Northern States were against slavery because they didn't see it as a humane form of labor, and didn't need slavery as their main form of labor was industrial. The Southern States wanted to keep slavery as a form of agricultural labor so they left the United States to form the succeeded states aka the Confederate States of America. New york was a slavery state even it was at north

The southern states used unpaid labor, slavery, for their businesses. With no labor costs, they were able to make hefty profits.
To abolish slavery, or to keep it. The south wanted to keep it because they had fields where they grew crops such as cotton and therefore needed labor; the north wanted to abolish because they were slightly more advanced and had factories with no need for slaves.
The Confederacy fought the war to keep slavery
Both the new Republican Party and the Free-Soil party shared opposition to the expansion of slavery into new U.S. territories. They believed in limiting the spread of slavery to preserve the rights of free labor and the economic opportunities of white settlers.
I just had this done today on an '05 Cavalier. The labor was $130 and the part was $60. Total $210. I guess it's worth it to keep my sanity through the winter.
