The keys to press to create a building block in a MS Word document are ALT+F3.
If you are at the end of the document then press the Enter or Return key to extend the working area of the document. The arrow keys and Page Up/Down keys only work in the working area of the document.

When the program is running there will be a flashing vertical line, the insertion point, on screen when you press the keys of the keyboard, those letters appear at the insertion point and become the words of your document. You type the keys and make a word.

Ctrl - A will select all of the text. Using the Shift key and any of the navigation keys, will also select text. These include the arrow keys, Page Up, Page Down, Home and End. Using Ctrl - Shift and the arrow keys will select a word at a time.
Usually Word will start a new document (a blank page) when you open the MS Word program. If you are in Word but in a pre-existing document (for example, with text or pictures already on it) then you can create a new document by pressing the Ctrl and N keys on your keyboard at the same time. Finally, once you've typed or added everything you want on the document, press Ctrl and S simultaneously to save the document and have it show up as is the next time you open it.
