If by frame story you mean a story in which the protagonist is framed and must seek exoneration by finding the real perpetrator, then yes, I suppose it would be a kind of detective fiction.....even if the protagonist is not a detective by trade.
It's a bit awkward, because there are two plots in the play. In the first, Bassanio would be the protagonist in his quest for Portia's hand, but there is no antagonist. In the second, Shylock is a kind of antagonist to Antonio's protagonist, but one does not feel that Antonio is a character of that kind of significance. This may be one reason that many modern interpreters recast the play as the Tragedy of Shylock, with Shylock as a protagonist and Portia as an antagonist.
The protagonist typically undergoes the most significant character changes as a result of the conflict. Through facing obstacles and overcoming challenges, the protagonist learns, grows, and evolves, leading to a transformation in beliefs, values, or behaviors by the end of the story.
kind of point of view
i would really say the protagonist would be the character that is trying to achieve a goal because the main character always has some kind of goal while the protagonist is trying to keep the antagonist from reaching their goal
I would have to say 100% at some point will break up if either party knows for sure there is no future. Sounds cruel to get involved knowing there is no future...what kind of person would do that?
