Naturally, Toyota says to use only "Toyota Long Life Engine Coolant or Equivalant". In laymans terms, the "or equivalant" means go the auto parts store and ask for "the pink stuff". They'll know what you mean even if you don't.

96 4runner engine oil capacityi have myself a 1996 Toyota 4runner with 3.4l engine. this engine is called 5VZ-FE. i do have an original manual book for the car and that is what is says. if you change the oil with the filter it will take 5.2 quarts. if you do a change without replacing a filter - 4.9. well good luck changing your oil!
Just unbolt it and pull it out. Then replace the gasket and reinstall the bolts. If you have a V6 there is a cover that goes with it. On the 4 cyl. You might find it easier to remove the manifold cover.
Dot 3 or Dot 4 doesnt really matter. They are so close in comparison, a normal user will never reach the temperatures that either is rated for.
