Products with this ingredient can be had at large pet supply stores and other markets, and they don't need to be branded with an exotic label. As long at the list of ingredients includes coal tar, that's the ticket.
Some conditions may not improve with a coal tar shampoo, and these will require a more dedicated approach (including a trip to the animal hospital). For all pet diagnostics, it's always best to talk to a vet. Do not accept any advice from here or anywhere else in the place of a vet's consultation These specialists (veterinarians) go to school for a zillion years to learn the ins and outs of all things critter related. (And vet school is harder to get into than medical school!) But if you know that you want to try a dog shampoo to see if it will help a skin condition on your K-9, get a product with coal tar. Ask any pet store professional, or any groomer to get the scoop from folks who work on the front lines.

∙ 11y agoNone - dogs are notorious groomer who will lick anything you put on them. While lotions are typically safe for topical application, they are not safe to eat.
If your dog's skin is dry or his hair coat appears rough, ask your veterinarian (a phone call will probably work) about supplementing with a bit of fish oil or Vitamin E. This seems to help some dogs have a better skin and coat.
