ABS brakes are better for winter, for the very reason they were developed. Locking up your brakes on a slippery surface i.e. snow, ice, etc will cause a total loss of control of your vehicle. Rear ABS only can still cause the front wheels to lock up resulting in a loss of steering. Regardless of your braking system, start braking early, and gently pump the brake pedal to stop.
