Depends on the food. Straight into a Ziplock bag is good for liquid or berries for example. You can use a straw to pull out all the air before sealing. Meat, poultry, I recommend wrapping in plastic wrap , then in foil. then putting in a ziplock . Bread i do the same. Must protect from freezer burn as well as keeping air out.
I don't have a scientific answer, but whenever I freeze things I'll always go for plastic containers. They don't break easily, they're durable and can handle freezing conditions. And you won't really miss it if it's going to be frozen for a while.
