There are only two acceptable brands of coolant for your car.
The first is "official VW G12." This is pink and comes from a Volkswagen dealer. Volkswagen buys it from the German chemical company Pentosin.
If you don't have a VW dealer in your area, or you don't like the one you have, the same product is sold as "Pentofrost SF." NAPA stores should have it; if yours doesn't keep it in stock, they'll special order it for you.
Mine came on to tell me that the coolant was low. check that. Remember to use the right kind of coolant and don't mix different kinds.
old beetles dont use coolant
Important!!! Use only G12 coolant for any Volkswagen or Audi. DO NOT MIX FACTORY COOLANT WITH ANY OTHER BRAND Dealers will have it for approx 20-30 dollars per gallon. Pentosin produces the coolant for Volkswagen, Audi and BMW.
it uses dexcool coolant
The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle runs on regular unleaded.
The 2014 Volkswagen Beetle runs on regular unleaded.
The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle runs on regular unleaded.
You use engine coolant, period. There is no manufacturer specific kind. Make sure you mix it 50 percent coolant and 50 percent water. -actually its the green kind-
If it is a new beetle you use G12 mixed half and half with distilled water.
A 2001 Volkswagen Beetle only takes a specific type of coolant. When flushing or just topping off the radiator in this vehicle be sure to use G12+ coolant to ensure proper cooling for the vehicles engine.
Green coolant (prestone, etc)
For an aircooled VW Beetle, use Castrol GTX2. It has the right viscosity.
