Problems following a hurricane may include:

  • Power outages
  • Flooding
  • Damage roads
  • People left homeless
  • Landslides (in steep terrain)
  • Shortages of food, water, and medicine

Not all of these problems occur with every hurricane. When problems arise depend on where a hurricane hits and how severe it is.

Electrical power may be out, running water may be out, gas lines can break. Phone lines may be down, cell phone network may be overloaded. Roads can be flooded and washed away, damage to bridges.

If roads aren't working, stores run out of food and gas stations run out of fuel.

well hurricanes are a force of nature and you cant predict nature but a hurricane has been known for years to wipe out an entire city or it could a big one like Katrina.

Hurricanes can produce flooding through their rain and storm surge, this can cause extensive property damage is is the leading cause of death in hurricanes. The winds of a hurricane can also be deadly and destructive. Ground soaked by hurricane rains can create a risk of landslides. Power grids can also be destroyed and the storm surge can contaminate freshwater sources with seawater. Even when a hurricane doesn't approach shore it can still produce dangerous waves and riptides.
