Representative Constitutional republic. The U.S. is not a democracy because the constitution and laws restrain the government, not the vote of the citizens.
The United States of America if more of a Republican democracy. If we were a total democracy there would be more.... I think Freedom is the word I'm looking for. There would be more power to the people and less control coming from The House of Representatives, Senate, and President.

Constitutional Republic, Not DemocracyThe United States is not a democracy. It is a constitutional republic. Political officials are elected by the people and are to rule according to existing constitutional law, which limits government's control over the people. That differs from a democracy in which the people rule, either directly or through elected officials, and whatever is decided by the majority is what rules.

The American form of Democracy is a child of Roman, Greek, English, and French attempts of establishing rule by the people, as opposed to rule solely by the upper classes; with varying degrees of success.. The two modern forms that have survived are versions of those predecessors. The French and the American form of Democracy are based on a Republic, whereas, the Canadian and British have evolved into a Parliamentary system
