For most cars, you can use Prestone Green; it's an all purpose antifreeze that is supposed to be compatible with multiple manufactures.
But if you have access to your owner's manual, there should be a section that recommends fluid types. You should always use the recommended fluids, as some of the universal stuff can have interactions with the original fluid. Also the universal fluids may not have the same protective additives that your engine requires.
For the 1999 Ford expedition it is recommended that you use the Ford Premium engine coolant which is green in color. You should not use the Ford extended life engine coolant which is orange in color.
You use engine coolant, period. There is no manufacturer specific kind. Make sure you mix it 50 percent coolant and 50 percent water. -actually its the green kind-
Clean water, preferably drinkable water.
Dextacool (orange) coolant by Prestone. DO NOT MIX with green coolant because you will have a major problem on your hand concerning the engine and cooling system. Thxs
Red, 5 year, HOAT type.
The regular universal green coolant.
There is no need to use straight coolant in your engine in the winter. You can buy coolant premixed in any auto supply store. Unless you live in an area that is colder than average or stays below zero, that's what you should use.
If coolant needs to be added and the owner does not know what kind is already in the engine, it should be drained and flushed before adding any new. Most coolants are appropriate, but it is not recommended to mix brands or types. Use a coolant safe for aluminum blocks or buy Yamaha brand coolant specifically for your model. The coolant should be premixed 50/50 or if it is not premixed, mix it 60% coolant and 40% water before adding.
Don't confuse engine coolant and air conditioning refrigerant. Engine coolant is Dex cool- Do not use any other kind as the sensors in the system will read differently with the wrong coolant and make incorrect adjustments in your system. Air conditioning refrigerant in your car is R-134a.
you should use coolant, therefore your bike will run cooler, the lower the engine temperature the better
It should use ethylene glycol coolant. If for some reason you cant find that in the store then use a universal coolant.
whaT KIND OF COOLANT DO I PUT IN MY 2001 PONTIAC SUNFIRE Generally, the GM model vehicles, or is this case, the sunfire, use a specific kind of coolant called DEX-cool extended life engine coolant. It is orange-ish in color and most of the time GM specific. i have a 01 sunfire, 2.2 liter myself, and on my car frame, i have a sticker that says "Use only DEX-cool engine coolant....". Hope this helps!
