Alexander Graham bell had a rather harsh family. They expected much of him. Some could say too much. His grandmother yelled at him once when he was a young boy, because his green bean casserole was only 6 layers instead of 7. He recieved a rather painful whipping from his uncle upon realizing young Alexander would later create the telephone, and never call him for the holidays. He didn't even put money in any of his cards! And he only got him a blender for Christmas. Shame on you, Alexander. Shame on you.

How did phones get invented?

Alexander Graham Bell was connected to some American University and studied audio and electrical issues. It could have been on or near the American West coast. He had a Deaf family member on a nearby island which was used for Deaf colonies in those days - towards the end of the 19th century. His aim was to help his Deaf family member stuck on the island by developing a kind of a primitive hearing aid. As soon as he had success with his experiments, he realized the impact it could have on spoken communication between hearing people! So one could say that the 1st telephone was invented as a byproduct of a hearing aid! This story is confirmed in a book on the life of Helen Keller (born in 1881) who's father contacted Alexander in his search for help for his Deaf and blind daughter.
