My understanding from my aquarium days was that most of the standard tropical fish were acceptable with a Beta. I think I've heard that they might want to nibble at the fins of an Angelfish. The big no-no of course is a second male Beta.
Good fish for a 10 gallon with a betta are Cory catfish (be sure to get the pygmy variety or else you are in for a surprise) cherry barbs, and depending on your bettas personality neon tetras. some betts can get along with neon tetras, others don't. All of the above mentioned fish need to be in groups of 6 or more because they are highly social fish, and will become the fish version of insane if they don't have alot of their own species around them. what do you mean by "betta couple?" male bettas should NEVER be kept together in the same tank unless it is divided, and females should NEVER live in groups of less than 4 (in a ten gallon you could do 6 females if it is heavily plated and decorated, but you shouldn't add other fish).
Female betas can go with pretty much anything that won't try to eat it. Males can be a little trickier as they are agressive to eachother and may mistake colourful tropical fish as a competing male betta. Dull fish are a good idea, or green or black fish as there are really no green or black bettas. Also how big is your tank? Bettas should have a heater, but do not require a filter as they breathe directly from the surface. I too own a betta, He is in a .8 gallon Marina Half Moon with a small orange bee shrimp and a tiny filter powered by an airstone. I do not have a heater, but will be getting one shortly. You may also notice that the water will become couldy and milky in your betta bowl/tank but don't worry, this will go away soon.
Gourami, Molly, Platy, Barbs
How about a beta? They are solitary fish, but they do well in small tanks. A five gallon tank would be more than enough for one. Anything less than 1 gallon is not enough.
I have kept fancy gold fish that are around 2x-3x bigger then the beta fish in a 10 gallon tank. There are stories of fish being ripped apart. If you watch the tank after adding a beta you should be able to find out quickly. The less crowed the tank the better. Betas are very territorial of space.
Fish tanks around the size of 1 gallon and up. I know what some people tell you. ( beta fish do beater in bowls, because they live in puddles, and they live longer and happier.) One, beta fish are breed in lakes and ponds. Second, how would you like living in your nasty closet forever? I have a beta who lives excellently in a ten gallon tank, which lived for three years till he died of old age, NOT IN BAD CONDITIONS. And third, whoever told you the opposite, is a corrupted business man, who knows nothing but how to make money of suckers quick. Just get a one gallon tank, and your fish will live longer, and less bored. You will also clean it allot less.
If the Beta Fish doesn't eat then it means that the Beta Fish is sick. I know this answer because I had a Beta Fish in my class in grade 4.
At least one gallon, any smaller, then: you would have to clean it allot more. The fish would be miserable of boredom, living in unsanitary conditions. And stores such as wall-mart, will be profiting from all the fish you replace. Just trust this coming from a guy with a 10 gallon tank complete with very happy beta, its worth seeing a pleased fish. Lastly, go to pets stores instead of walmart, follow the right instructions for your specific fish, and you and your fish should be good to go.
No, you cannot put these two fish together. In general you should keep Beta's alone by themselves, not even with other Beta's. They are mostly kept in bowls without a light, a heater or an oxygen line. The Beta will kill your guppy.
a gold fish or a beta fish
The rule of thumb is to keep no more than 1" of fish per gallon.
You could, but it is very dangerous because the beta would eat the gold fish. 🐠🐟
a beta fish is one.
the Chinese beta fighting fish
A betta fish can live comfortably in a minimum 2.5-gallon tank, but providing a 5-gallon tank or larger is even better. This allows the fish to swim and explore, promoting exercise and mental stimulation. The more space and clean water a betta fish has, the healthier and happier it will be.
