Change and flush the transfer case fluid immediately.
It uses Trak II transfer case fluid, GM part number 12378508. The fluid goes in a hole, use a ratchet with an extension to remove it, on the side of the transfer case.
Ive ran into this problem. It could be one of two problems, but what i have that it could be a bad crank seal or there is a crack in the case. First check the crank seal if it is good then you need to split the case and find the crack. JB Weld will fix it right up.
None
The 1974 model 203 transfer case has a fluid capacity of 5.5 quarts. You can check the fluid level from the same hole that you fill the transfer case.
locate oil drain plug on engine sump pan, drain oil. remove filter, add a little oil to the gasket of new filter, install new filter, do not overtighten, usually, hand tight plus a third of a turn. put in new oil, filler cap will be a flush mount on top side of the lower tranmission case.
Seeing as each standard can is 12 fluid ounces, there would be 288 fl ounces total in a 24 case.12 fluid ounces/1 can x 24 cans/case = 288 fluid ounces/case.
Remove the fill plug on the transfer case and see if fluid is up to the edge of the plug!
yes you can put the same fluid in the transfer case.
