What kind of food does a cockatiel eat?

I gave my cockatiels the regular purple grapes and they didn't seem interested in them at all. If you take the skin off the grapes and put them in their food bowls they will most likely eat them.

when I fed my cockatiels grapes they didn't seem interested in them at all, so I tried peeling off the skin and they were a little more interested but not much. so you can try this with your birds, hopefully they will eat them. they are also more interested in fruits and veggies if you start giving it to them when they are babies.

After a cockatiel is weaned, it eats seeds (many people mistake seed for food, but seed is a treat and should be given in moderation) and vegetables. In order to have a healthy, happy cockatiel, a large variety of vegetables should be available (in moderation, of course!).

Cockatiels absolutely love lettuce, brocolli, celery and parsley in moderation.

IMPORTANT: too much of one food, such as parsley is bad for your cockatiel as parsley has chemicals, which in large amounts can damage your cockatiel's health. This is the same of brocolli.

Lots of lettuce is fine for cockatiels, however it acts as a laxative in large amounts.

Remember: Everything in moderation.

• Lettuce - cockatiels absolutely love lettuce! (in moderation - lettuce in large amounts acts as a laxative)
• Carrot
• Brocolli
• Cucumber
• Corn
• Parsley (in very small amounts, occasionally - it is dangerous in large amounts, or when consumed frequently)
• Peas
• Apple
• Banana
• Pears
• Grapes
• Celery (no nutritional value as it is mainly water, but your cockatiel will love it - in moderation, of course)

Bright orange and dark green vegetables have the most vitamins.

Mushy, discoloured or bruised fruit and vegetables should never be given to your cockatiel/s.

The more interesting the food, the more your cockatiel will want to eat it.

NEVER FEED YOUR COCKATIEL AVOCADO, TOMATO, RHUBARB, ALCOHOL, COFFEE, TEA, CHOCOLATE, SUGAR, FRUIT SEEDS SUCH AS APPLE PIPS or MOULDY FRUIT AND VEGETABLES!

Cockatiels can eat all types of fruit. However, be aware that caged birds need a balanced diet, and too much fruit will lead to diarrhoea. Only ever give fruit in small amounts, and remove uneaten fruit each day.
