My parakeets love cooked brown rice with green peas, shredded carrots, small sized pasta, applesauce or shredded apples (or other shredded fruit), small whole grains, shredded sweet potato, shredded zuccini/squash, healthy dry cereal such as Grape Nuts, etc (healthy, nutritious human foods), mixed in. I make this basic soft food mix differently each time using a variety of foods. Use frozen veggies (not canned) and/or fresh foods. Keets also like corn bread, multi/whole grain breads, and I also provide pelleted food 24/7, as well as some seed AFTER they have eaten their healthy food (they don't get their seed unless they eat their nutritious food first). Birds won't eat food they don't recognize as food, therefore, you have to keep offering the new food every day.

Why is my parakeet hyper?
Well it could be because you changed his/her food. My bird, Crosby, got really hyper when I changed his food from Parakeet- Finch and canary food to fruit blend flavor and he go really hyper.
