peace
She gave the, at the time unnamed, town of Athens the olive branch. Her and Poseidon were having a bit of bet on which person could give a better gift. Athena gave the town the olive branch, which could be used for medicine, food, and crafting. Poseidon however struck the ground with his trident and gave the town a well. However, the water was salty and unfit for drinking. The people preferred Athena's gift and so they named their town Athens in honor of Athena.
An olive tree.
An Olive Garden gift card is a possible graduation gift. You also could give her OPI nail polish.
Poseidon and Athena had a contest to see which god/goddess would have a Greek city-state named after them. Poseidon made a spring, and Athena gave them an olive branch.
it represents everything the earth supplies for us. the olives give food, their trees give shelter the branches build us homes and gives us warmth. this is how the Greeks look at it. ive been to Greece and this is how the olive trees and branches were described.
Peace. It is/was standard vernacular to say, "I extend an olive branch", or something similar, when trying to quell hostile spirits between two (or more) nations or people. The most ancient reference seems to be in the Bible when the dove Noah has sent out after the rain had stopped returned with an olive branch in its mouth. Gen. 8:11 - The dove came to him toward evening, and behold, in her beak was a freshly picked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the water was abated from the earth. Some, however, give the Greeks credit for this tradition. Athena is said to have offered the olive tree to Zeus for the city of Athens, but this does not explain why this should be taken for "peace". Given that the Star of David appears above the head of the eagle on the seal the first explanation seems more likely.
The story of Athena's olive tree is: Poseidon and Athena once we're fighting over a town so they decided to see who could give the people of that town the better gift, Poseidon gave them salt water that helped for nothing at all, and Athena gave them an olive tree.
The Olive tree is one of Athena's symbols. When Athena and Poseidon were competing to be the patron of Athens they both had to give one gift. Poseidon gave the city a spring of water and Athena gave the city an olive tree. Because Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea the spring was too salty to drink. So Athena won and from then on the olive was her sacred symbol.
Then you are disappointed. That's it. No one owes someone else a gift. A gift is a gift and not an obligation.
