Airplane pilots use neither topographical or geological. The map they use gives airways, VORs, crossing points, and identifiers for airports, etc.
Airplane pilots typically use topographic maps, which show elevation and physical features of the Earth's surface, to navigate during flights. These maps provide information on terrain, airports, restricted areas, and other important features that help pilots plan routes and ensure a safe journey. Geologic maps, on the other hand, focus on the distribution of rock types and geological formations and are not commonly used for aviation navigation.
The TITLE and LEGEND tell what kind of map it is, the projection used, and the scale, and gives explanations of the markings and symbols used on the map.
A topographic map shows height above sea level using contour lines. These lines connect points of the same elevation, providing a visual representation of the terrain's vertical relief.
Although many types of maps show these features, a physical map seems to be the best answer. A physical map shows the physical features of an area; mountains, lakes, rivers, coastlines, and so on. A topographic map also shows the physical features of an area. (i.e. - the shapes and locations of mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, cities, roads, bridges, and many other natural and man made features). However, the differentiating aspect of a topographic map is that it shows both horizontal and vertical representations of the terrain with a combination of contour lines, colors, symbols, labels, and other graphical representations.

From my perspective i would have to say a 25% chance of a plane crashing although turbulence can happen a lot but most of the pilots know how to control an Airplane in that kind of problem.
A geologic map shows rock types making up earths surface.
It depends on who he flies for, what he's carrying, what kind of plane, whether it's an airline or the Air Force...pilots can make anywhere from $20,000 per year to $150,000.
