If three or more elements are bonded together in a compound (Eg. H2SO4) then that compound is called a "Polyatomic" ion. "Poly" meaning three or more.

If there are only two atoms, it is Diatomic (Di meaning two). An example of a diatomic molecule would be CO2.

What is the difference between a double bond and a triple bond?

Double bond is a chemical bond formed when atoms share two pairs of electrons & Triple bond is a chemical bond formed when atoms share 3 pairs of element .

What type of bond is formed if the atoms share electrons when the element are combined?

covalent bonding

Is Cl2 a covalent bond or ionic bond?

Covalent. There is no electronegativity difference between two atoms of the same element.

What type of bond is characterized by equal sharing of electrons?

You're referring to a "nonpolar" bond. This occurs when both atoms have the same electronegativity. In any case of an element bonded with the same element, the bond is nonpolar.

Bond formed when electrons are formed between atoms?

covalent bond

What is formed in a metallic bond when atoms give up electrons-?

Positive Ions

Which of Dalton's ideas about atomic theory have been applied to current atomic theory?

all matter is made up of units called atoms atoms can bond to and un-bond from each other all atoms of the same element are identical. atoms can form bonds during chemical reactions the basic unit of matter is an atom atoms will have identical atomic mass if they are the same element

What consits of 2 atoms of the same element in a covalent bond?

A diatomic molecule is a molecule formed by the covalent bonding between atoms of the same element. Examples include H2, O2, Cl2.

What is formed in a metallic when atoms give up electrons?

When an atom gives up one or more electrons to another atom, an ionic bond is formed. Atoms are the basic unit of a chemical element.

What bond is formed between two similar atoms?

A covalent bond is formed between two atoms with similar electronegativity.

What bond is formed by the union of two more atoms?

The answer depends on how the bond is formed. The bond between two atoms could be an ionic bond if the electrons are transferred between the two atoms or the bond could be covalent if the electrons are shared between the two atoms.

Where do atoms get their energy?

Have you heard of the term "bond energy"? The bonds between atoms of the same element, and atoms of different elements all contain a certain amount of energy. When a bond is broken, energy is released. When a bond is formed, energy is required. For example, two Carbon atoms bonding (they can have a C-C single bond, a C=C double bond, or a triple bond).
