The heart essentially is a muscle. Myocardium or cardiac muscle forms the majority of the heart and its chambers. It is It is an involuntary muscle, that is opperates on an automatic/unconcious level. It differs by several characteristics from smooth muscle (found in places such as the intestinal tract, stomach etc) and skeletial muscle (the muscle's you can EASILY see on body builders).
