Im am asked this alot.
The type of OIL used in any lawn mower or lawn tractor depends on where YOU LIVE...
In the South you use only SAE-30, in the NORTH you can use SAE-30 and some multi-grade oils 10w 30 is about the best for use in the north if you choose to use multi-grade oils. SAE-30 will allow the engine to last longer when in use under high temps, as multi-grade oils change viscosity when being heated and does not work well in the southern regions.
What kind of oil can you put an alarm or what weight
?
where do you put the oil at for a john deere 317 riding lawn mower and what brand of oil
give up and hire a lawn service...
You will foul your spark plugs and probably ruin your lawn mower. Because that oil is not designed to mix with your fuel.
If you put it in for engine oil you will have a major problem. If you put it in with the fuel then you will notice the mower smoking a lot and possibly fouling the spark plug.
Craftsman 6.5hp lawn mowers can use two kinds of oil--"HD 30" oil, which is a single-weight SAE 30, or the same oil you put in your car. (If you have a Honda lawn mower, you have to run multigrade oil in it.) I always have a case of 5W30 Castrol sitting there, and that's what I use because it's right there already. I also have some 15W40 Rotella on hand, but I wouldn't put that in a lawn mower--it's too thick. (Works good in a Cummins ISX, though.)
If all oil the mower will not start. If only a little oil, the mower may start but run rough and smoke very much.

Engine wear and damage can occur.
No, seals are cheap, engines expensive.......
Automotive oil is identical to lawn mower oil. They are both internal combustion engines. I would however recommend you use 100% Synthetic oil in that air cooled lawnmower engine.
There is no oil drain on a 650 series lawn mower. You have to turn the mower over and drain the oil from the spout you put it in the engine. Make sure the gas tank is empty
Go to the drain plug and let some out
