The suggested motor oil for a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant is a light 5W30 conventional oil. Older engines made need a little heavier oil to prevent leaking.
2003 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L four cyllinder or 3.0L V6 sold in Canada and US comes with 5W30 engine oil from the factory. Full synthetic is strongly recommended if car is used for city driving or prolonged idling.
