The now defunct Helio Phones were a project of Korean SK Telecom and the American EarthLink companies. It used a mobile virtual network operator to offer wireless voice, messaging, and data services.
Helio cell phones can be purchased from online retailers, such as Amazon and eBay. However, there are also specialist stores, e.g. CarphoneWarehouse and Phones 4 U that sell Helio cell phones.
Helio phones are not available @ Verizon Stores. Helio phones are available via online resources as well as retailers like FYE and through helio itself (at http://www.helio.com)
Ciao and Dooyoo all have customer reviews on Helio cell phones. Alternatively one can check them out on Amazon, and Tech Hive, and Cnet who also offer expert reviews and product comparisons.
They are both really great phones but the g1 seems to break esier because of the way it opens i prefer the helio ocean 2.
The answer is Yes and No. The phones use CDMA technology (as opposed to AT&T and T-Mobile which use GSM), so in THEORY you would be able to activate a Helio device on the Verizon Network. All Helio devices natively use the Sprint Network for primary transit, and will resort to using Verizon's network when roaming. So, for your bottom line answer: No. You cannot use a Helio device with Verizon Wireless... (Yet. Hopefully that will change soon.)
Helio began as a joint venture between Earthlink and SK Telecom. Earthlink has divested itself from the partnership and it is now owned and operated by SK Telecom. (The previous answer here indicated that Sprint owned 1/3 of Helio, which is incorrect). Helio is an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) that uses the Sprint Network. You cannot activate Helio phones with Sprint directly.
The style of music that is played by the band, Helio Sequence, is a form of independent alternative rock and roll with a considerable amount of electric base.
