Very few rats eat plants. They usually scavenge for seeds and nuts, which is thir main diet. Even so Rats are omnivores, they will eat anything they can get a hold of .. Including other animals. Commonly small insects and arachnids. Rats will also chew on wood - a common cause of house damage. Considering many are pests they eat opened cereal, left out food and any scraps they can get a hold of. Rats simply eat everything...
