You can use any kind of a cocktail shaker to make a martini. I think the stainless steel ones with lids are the best.
For starters, a true martini uses gin, not vodka.Beyond that, it is up to the bartender or whoever as to what kind of vodka you use for a vodka martini. That said, plain vodka appears to be most common.
You need approximately six cubes of ice to make a martini.

James Bond glamorized the "shaken, not stirred" vodka martini, but that concoction is as much a real martini as 007 was a real spy. So drink these alcoholic Shirley Temples if you must, but at least avoid painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa by calling them martinis. The Food Channel website has a good Pomegranate Martini recipe. Ingredients include orange slices, superfine sugar, orange vodka, pomegranate syrup, pomegranate juice and seeds for garnish. You use the orange slice to rub across the rim of the glass, this will hold the sugar in place. Pour 1 ounce each of orange vodka and pomegranate syrup and half ounce of juice in cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and pour.
Basically, a double martini is two martini cocktails served in one glass. To mix one, you use twice as much gin and twice as much vermouth, then strain it into a larger martini glass. They are not recommended, as the drink will be warm before you've finished it (unless you're drinking way too fast). It is generally better to order a martini, drink it and order another than to order a double martini.
