Chickens are really easy to take care of. They do require a good shelter. It needs to have a good roof and at least 3 sides to block the wind. I would put hay in their shelter on occasion especially when it's cold.
We are currently raising 3 baby chicks, we've had them for a week - they are just now 3 weeks old. They are Amerucana, Tetra Tint, and Jersey Giant. We are using our Beagle's old crate - which he's not very happy about but we disinfected it and they are happy. When they get big enough to whether the elements - we'll move them to the coop which is just a structure made from 2x4s with a tin roof SUPER SIMPLE. They have a "yard" that is fenced in with a gate so they are quite literally free range chicks.
they need both of them like the plants
Chickens need the same things other creatures need.......food, water, and shelter from predators & the weather.
Shelter. when raising chickens in the backyard it is always advisable to have some form of shelter or allow the chickens access to the chicken coop at all times. Shelter from wind and rain can easily be arraged with a few boards and a tarp.

Yes. A chicken needs to roost at night and have shelter from both predators and the elements. Shelters do not need to be elaborate, just safe and protect them from the wind and rain. It also helps you find eggs if you provide a safe haven for the flock to gather.
