Osmosis occurs when water moves from a solution with a low solute concentration to a solution with a high solute concentration. This is due to the tendency of water to move from an area of high concentration (low solute) to an area of low concentration (high solute) in order to equalize the concentration on both sides of the membrane.
When you dissolve a solute into a solvent until it is evenly mixed, the solute particles become uniformly dispersed throughout the solvent. The resulting mixture is called a homogeneous mixture or solution.
When you raise the temperature of a saturated solution; you can add more solute and make it a super saturated solution because the molecules of the solvent will be able to attract more molecules of solute.
A saturated solution
An unsaturated solution contains less solute than its capacity to dissolve. This type of solution can still dissolve more solute if added, as it has not reached its maximum concentration.
This depends on the solubility of the solute (e.g. table salt or milk sugar) and the kind of solvent (e.g. water or oil)
It is a supersaturated solution. These solutions are formed when a saturated solution with excess solute in it (like saltwater with extra salt on the bottom) is heated until all the solute dissolves. When the solution is cooled, the extra solute remains in solution--thus supersaturated because more solute is dissolved than should be at that temperature. The seed crystal provides an opportunity for the extra solute to come out of solution.
This is called a dilute solution.
