What kind of tourist attractions are there to do in syria?

As of 2016, any travel to Syria is extremely dangerous and should be avoided or postponed at all costs. However, as concerns what people would see if they went to Syria, the following are several notable sites:

1. City of Damascus: The city of Damascus is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, with numerous ancient and pre-modern buildings. It also has large markets, national museums, and bustling streets. Most importantly, it also houses the Jame'a Bani Umayya al-Kabir or the Great Umayyad Mosque, which is the fourth holiest site in Sunni Islam, after the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the Tomb of Saladin.
   
2. Crac des Chevaliers: This is a massive Crusader castle near to the city of Homs.
3. City of Aleppo: This is the largest city outside of Damascus and has its own unique culture and ruins, such as the Aleppo Citadel, but also has the typical outdoor markets and Syrian food.
4. Palmyra: This was one of the best preserved Roman ruins in the Islamic World. Unfortunately, it was completely obliterated by Islamic State. Apamea, another set of Roman ruins further west, has survived the war up to the present.
