The 2001 uses what i would consider an old, outdated 3 speed transmission. I have it in my car, and i would say it is a terrible transmission. The gearing is poor, since its a 3 speed, first gear is very long, making off the line acceleration poor, after that the transmission runs good, but at highway speeds (usually in excess of 70 mph) the transmission and engine are high revving to the point where the engine seems like it's screaming down the highway. If i had the chance i would trade it for the 5 speed manual any day of the week.
