You should use tap water or bottled water. If you are using tap or bottled water, make sure you buy a bottle of Water Air Contitioner for the Betta. Make sure it says: Betta Water Conditoner, or on the bottle it says it can be used on all kinds of fish. Also, at Petco, they have a gallon of something called Betta Water. You won't need any chemicals for this, they made this water safe for the Betta. Thinking about buying a Betta Fighting Fish or need the right supplies for it? Here is the list of supplies that you will need: -A GLASS bowl. [Plastic bowls might have harmful chemicals] -Betta Water Conditioner [Or a water conditoner that can be used for any kind fish] -Betta Fish Food -Rocks for the bowl -1 or more plants [Betta's love plants to hide in] - A sponge to clean out the Betta bowl [Clean it twice a week] -If you want, you could buy a net IF YOU want to. You could put him in a cup, too. This is about everything you need. By the way, you shouldn't put a Betta male and female together UNLESS its their breeding period. Otherwise, the male might damage the female because males are much larger then the females. NEVER put the same sex [male&male/female&female] together, because they WILL fight. Bettas are Freshwater Fish and can be kept in dechlorinated tapwater (buy water treatment from your pet store). However, they do need their water kept clean and warm. It should be changed often, especially if not filtered. A betta MUST be kept either in a room with central heating, or in a heated tank or bowl. The water should not be allowed to drop below 18 degrees C.
Some people do not believe it but the best water to use in your betta fish tank is tap water. Bottled and distilled water has been "purified" and does not have the minerals that your Betta fish needs. If your tap water is so bad that you do not even drink it, than use spring water.
If you are talking about fish, I have a betta fish, and usually you use tap water, I do. Also if you would like to have safer water for the fish then you can use cleaners that you can buy at pretty much any pet store. I hope this helped!
The products you use to clean the tank like soap or liquid products.
Betta's are a very strange type of fish. For most fish putting them into previously boiled water would kill them, boiling water removes the oxygen vital for life. However, Betta have a special organ that lets them breath atmospheric air. Which means every now and then bettas will go up to the surface to get air. So maybe there is a chance of a BETTA surviving since it would not rely on the air in the water.
I personally would empty it, then scrub it clean and use it occasionally as a flower vase. It is not large enough to keep any kind of fish in properly. The basic rules for keeping fish successfully are. :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water (a Betta is a 3 inch fish). Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. The above is not completely true. A Betta in a half gallon tank should have half of its water replaced each week. You should use a conditioner with that water (mine came with Nutrafin Betta Bowl Water Conditioner). I also make 20% of it HBH Betta H2O, which can be bought in bottles.
warm water.
Tap water is the best water for betta fish! There is no need to go out and buy expensive betta fish water...it's no different then tap! If you want to be sure that the tap water is safe for your betta, put in some sort of conditioner for the water.
Any brand of bottled water that is free of chlorine and other harmful chemicals can be used for your betta fish. Just make sure to condition the water properly before adding it to your betta's tank. And remember, your fish won't care if it's fancy designer water or the cheap stuff - as long as it's clean and safe, they'll be happy.
Yes. Most anything placed in the water, other than chemicals intended for fish use, can overly stress a fish that can lead to death if not outright kill the fish.
No. Charcoal bits will harm your betta fish. But you can use deactivated charcoal bits
Yes, But i personally advise you not to use Aquasafe water conditioning products. your fish may die on the second water change
Did you use Betta water treatment when you changed it. Did you acclimatize him to his water. When you change the water you drain the water into a cup (make sure the cup is deeper than the tank) with a little bit of his old water. Then, when you have refilled it with room temperature water and put water treatment in, place the cup in the water (making sure not to get any of the new water in yet). After about an thirty mins to two hours (depending on the amount of water in the glass) go ahead and dump that little fishy into his fresh, clean home. If not your betta will become agitated for a day or so; and if you don't use water treatment he will become very ill (due to the chemicals in tap water) and may even expire. if you put any kind of fish in a container to to fast it will get scared. so put the fish in the container slowly.
